Irrigation Overseer - Lifestyle Roster

The Role
We're seeking an Irrigation Overseer to oversee the day-to-day irrigation operations and infrastructure alongside the Cropping Manager. This hands-on role is ideal for a motivated individual ready to contribute to one of the most sophisticated and diverse cropping operations in the region.

The Farming Operation
Merrowie Station is located just outside the charming town of Hillston, right on the banks of the beautiful Lachlan River, famous for its plentiful Murray Cod.
The station consists of three farming units: Merrowie, Sunland, and Brooklyn, covering a total of 33,000 hectares. This includes 11,000 hectares of arable land (both irrigation and dryland), 22,000 hectares of grazing country, 2,350 hectares of overhead irrigation via lateral move, and 5,500 hectares of surface furrow irrigation.
We grow a mix of crops including beetroot, cereals, cotton, pulses, and fibre, all supported by strong general security and groundwater entitlements. You'll also be working with near-new John Deere machinery alongside a skilled and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement "Best Practice" irrigation systems and standards to support crop production in consultation with Company Agronomists and the Farm Manager.
- Design and implement irrigation layouts and watering plans for optimal crop growth.
- Ensure delivery systems are maintained, including all pumps, channels and pipelines.
- Oversee water control systems, applications and water take.
- Manage/monitor irrigation run times and siphon changes with irrigation contractors, to ensure crop is watered fully while minimising tail water run-off.
- Ensure all Irrigation registers are maintained and current.
- Ensure all Irrigation schedules are implemented and reported on where required.
- Use Company provided software (Goanna Ag, FieldNET) to record all irrigation data.
- Water Meter/Hour readings are recorded accurately at the same time each day and submitted into the designated water tracking program on Power Apps.
- Maintain compliance with the Company's WH&S System and associated legislative requirements.
- Participate in team meetings (toolbox meetings etc).
What we need from You:
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role.
- Strong skills in GPS spraying, sowing, and harvesting.
- Sound agronomic knowledge and practical experience.
- Effective communication and record-keeping skills.
- Understanding of budgeting and procurement processes.
- Current driver's licence (HC desirable).
